How do I get started with Fundraising?

Running for office takes courage; and raising money to fund your campaign is one of the most important steps on that journey. The good news? You don't have to figure it out alone.

GoodParty works diligently to keep the cost of campaigning as low as possible; but you'll still need to raise funds to be successful. The community provides free, structured learning specifically designed for first-time and grassroots candidates.

Through the GoodParty Community, you can access courses, connect with fellow candidates, and build the fundraising skills you need to run a competitive, people-powered campaign.  

This article walks you through how to access the free online GoodParty Community, find the fundraising course, and make the most of everything available to you.

WHAT IS THE GOODPARTY COMMUNITY?

The GoodParty Community is a dedicated learning and networking space, separate from your campaign dashboard, where candidates can:

  • Take structured courses designed for independent, grassroots candidates
  • Connect with other candidates across the country who share your goals
  • Attend live events, Q&A sessions, and expert-led workshops
  • Earn rewards that directly support your campaign (more on that below!)

Think of it as your candidate support hub: part classroom, part network, part resource library.

HOW TO ACCESS THE GOODPARTY.ORG COMMUNITY

The Community is a separate platform from your GoodParty campaign dashboard, so you'll need to register independently the first time you visit. Don't worry; it only takes a moment.

Step 1: Log in to your GoodParty campaign dashboard (Free or Pro).

Step 2: Click your name in the bottom left corner of the dashboard.

Step 3: Select "Community Forum" from the menu.

Step 4: The first time you visit, you'll be prompted to register. Follow the on-screen steps to create your Community account.

Once you're in, you'll have full access to everything the Community has to offer.

Note: Your campaign dashboard login and your Community login are separate. If you ever have trouble accessing the Community, try registering again from the dashboard link above.

FINDING THE FUNDRAISING COURSE

Once you're logged into the Community, here's how to find the fundraising content:

Step 1: Navigate to Learning Pathways in the left-hand menu.

Step 2: Select the "Win" pathway.

Step 3: Look for the fundraising module within the course, it covers the key elements of building a successful fundraising strategy, from identifying donors to crafting your ask.

The course is self-paced, so you can work through it on your own schedule.

Finish the course and earn points toward  free text and calling campaigns!

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

The fundraising module is built around what actually works for independent, first-time candidates and serves as a good reminder for those seeking re-election. Topics covered include:

  • How to identify and approach potential donors
  • Crafting a compelling fundraising message that reflects your values
  • Setting realistic fundraising goals for your race
  • Organizing and tracking your outreach
  • Building momentum and maintaining donor relationships throughout your campaign

Whether you're starting from scratch or looking to sharpen your approach, this course gives you a practical, step-by-step framework.

EARN REWARDS WHILE YOU LEARN

The GoodParty Community rewards you for engaging.

Every time you:

  • Complete a course or module
  • Participate in discussions with other candidates
  • Attend a live event or expert Q&A session

...you earn points that can be redeemed for free text and calling campaigns on your GoodParty dashboard.

That means the time you invest in learning directly translates into campaign resources. The more you engage, the more tools you unlock.
